The Architecture of Energy
‘The Architecture of Energy’ explores how everything is made of the same energetic matter. Further, how all interactions are simply exchanges of said energy. The work asks how outside factors shape our energetic experiences, how our energetic experiences shape who we are as people, and how we shape the world around us. 'Architecture of Energy' is comprised of three sub-series:
'Universal Energy' is a visual representation of the visceral experience of energy alongside the geometric ‘building blocks’ that shape the interaction.
'Energy from the Earth' looks at energy as a life force and catalyst for self-growth through use of charcoal powder, a natural fertilizer.
'Compartmentalization' identifies the need to be mindful of how our own energy impacts others and vice versa.
Throughout the series there is a shared gold or silver circle. The circle(s) is a symbol of our spirit, of our internal light or a Universal light that guides us in thoughtful interaction.
My hope in sharing this work is to create a catalyst for collective change through personal healing and energy awareness.
Here and Now
‘Here and Now’ explores what it means to be fully present in any given moment. Each piece is comprised of deconstructed components that together create our everyday experiences.
One of the most pivotal conversations in my personal life and in my art career came from my life coach – a lesson around the importance of the word ‘and.’
AND: a simple three letter word that grants permission to hold two things at once, to hold space and honor competing truths or thoughts.
This conversation challenged me to live with greater intention and presence. In my work as a human, I began to wonder: Can we take a step back from enjoying the whole moment and breath in the smell of the air AND the movement of the wind AND subtle changes in light? Further, can those separate experiences share space harmoniously on canvas? How far can I break down an experience? What happens when I layer shapes and marks to build back up the experience? We can create our own experiences, right?
This unfolding of experiences is the intention behind ‘Here and Now’.
‘Energetic Expressions’ was born out of a newfound curiosity around energy. These works served as individual experiments and helped inform my understanding of what is. While the concept of energy stems from quantum physics, it is also abstract by nature. We can not see an exchange of energy. We do not know what our energy looks like when we are happy verses sad. From this desire to understand the invisible, to better comprehend my own visceral experiences, I initiated a meditation and energy work practice. ‘Energetic Expressions’ is a visual translation of the unseen life force that connects everything that exists – energy.
